The Sweetest Thing

The remodel is clearly not finished, but my sister is visiting and we need to be out of the house a few days for the mess of sanding drywall and spraying texture. So we’re going up to the Popple cabin.
Jason said the sweetest thing to me this morning. He said, “Tomorrow morning before we leave, we fill it up, hit start, and walk away.”

Counting Sheep

Maia: Mom, I just can’t sleep because my brother is talking. I’m counting sheep and … I’m counting lambs and I’m counting [pause to count on her fingers] cows and I’m counting [pause] pigs and I’m counting farmers, but it just won’t work.

I wanted to let the poblanos get bigger, but one fell off the plant and the others were ready to do the same. We’ll have an equal amount more in the next few days. Send your poblano recipes!

I thought the white berries on our Alpine Strawberry plants were just unripe. Then I realized that as big, soft and sweet as they are, that must be their color. White strawberries, nice!

They were so excited to go in the fountain, but never actually had the courage to get wet.

Then it was more like this, originally uploaded by Sydney Shimko.

Leggos – look at the box

Leggos – look at the box, originally uploaded by Sydney Shimko.

Maia: “Mama, I made the house, the airplane, the car, and the tree for the man!”

A little while after taking this photo, she built some new pieces and said, “now look at my body of work.” I asked her how she knew what that meant and she answered, “it’s an expression.”

I don’t know where she learns so much.
